Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reduction of Rs4.04 per unit in electricity tariffs for the industrial sector, describing it as a major relief for industries. He announced while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad held in honor of leading exporters and business figures.
The prime minister also announced a reduction of Rs9 in wheeling charges for industries and said that the tax rate for exporters is being reduced from 7.5 percent to 4.5 percent to further support the export sector.
During the ceremony, awards were distributed among exporters who have made significant contributions to the national economy. Addressing the gathering, Shehbaz Sharif said that exporters deserve immense appreciation, as prominent business leaders have worked tirelessly to bring recognition to the country.
He said that exporters performed exceptionally well despite challenging circumstances and played a key role in boosting Pakistan’s exports in 2025. The prime minister added that the unwavering efforts of exporters brought billions of dollars into the country.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that in the past, some people claimed that Pakistan had technically defaulted and repeatedly spoke about the country’s bankruptcy. He said that when his government took office, the economic situation was extremely fragile, and preventing default was a major challenge.
The prime minister acknowledged that the common citizen faced significant hardships but said that inflation is now gradually declining. He added that due to improved economic policies, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have doubled, and the country has been saved from bankruptcy through collective efforts.
He said that friendly countries stood by Pakistan during difficult times, and meetings were held with the leadership of various countries alongside the field marshal to ensure economic stability. According to the prime minister, the tough decisions taken by the government are now yielding positive results.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the government does not do business and that business is the responsibility of the private sector, while the government’s role is to facilitate growth. He said that all members of his team are working tirelessly to pave the way for national development and that political and military cooperation is opening new avenues for progress.
