Ahead of the festive season, Lahore has witnessed a sharp surge in the sale of kites and kite string, with transactions exceeding Rs54 billion over the past three days.
According to the Kite Association, more than 500,000 kites were sold in city markets on Tuesday alone, reflecting heightened public interest and increased buying activity ahead of the celebrations. Traders say the markets remained crowded as many buyers opted for advance purchases.
Meanwhile, kite-making activity is in full swing at Peshawar’s historic Yakatoot Bazaar, where dozens of shops and workshops are operating. Skilled artisans, mostly from Punjab, are working around the clock to manufacture kites and spools of string.
Shopkeepers say that due to the craftsmen’s experience and expertise, high-quality and visually appealing kites are being produced at reasonable prices and dispatched in large quantities to Lahore and other cities. They added that workshops across Peshawar are operating at full capacity to meet the growing demand in the market.
