Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Special Court in Gujranwala, where the court acquitted him after the hearing.
Earlier, a case was registered against Rana Sanaullah in the Special Court of Gujranwala’s Industrial Estate Police Station for allegedly threatening Chief Secretary and government officials.
Strict security measures were taken during the proceedings.
The court had also issued a notice to Rana Sanaullah’s surety, Rana Saad, on July 25.
The case against Rana Sanaullah was filed on August 5, 2022, under the Anti-Terrorism Act, based on the complaint lodged by local PML-N leader Shahkar Islam, who accused him of threatening the Chief Secretary and his family with death in the FIR.
The former Punjab government, under the PTI-led coalition, had filed a terrorism case against Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in April 2021 and January 2022, alleging that he had threatened the judiciary and government officials.
The complainant claimed that on April 15, 2021, and January 29, 2022, Rana Sanaullah had tried to prevent the judiciary from performing its duties and had threatened to kill the children of Punjab Police officers in his speeches.
The FIR stated that Rana Sanaullah’s intent was to spread fear and panic among the judiciary, Punjab’s Chief Secretary, the Commissioner, and the general public. His purpose was to prevent government employees from fulfilling their duties and legal responsibilities.
The petitioner further stated that the federal minister’s speeches had instilled fear among the judiciary, bureaucracy, police, administration, and the public.
The request also pleaded for an investigation into Rana Sanaullah’s statements and for him to be punished so that it could set an example for other citizens who speak against government officials.
