Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that it seems that our elders have decided that we should go ahead and do the same politics as they have suffered for 30 years, the youth of the country are tired of this traditional politics.
Addressing the National Assembly, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “We did not engage in vulgar language and uncivilized politics in the parliament.”
He mentioned that even when we were in opposition and used to criticize Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, we tried to stay within democratic norms.
The Foreign Minister said that while in opposition, we protested against corruption and aimed to expose the incumbent government, but we were always cautious not to engage in any activity that would harm the system, undermine democracy, or benefit a third force, be it undemocratic.
He noted that we focused entirely on achieving a vote of no confidence to remove a selected Prime Minister, a feat unprecedented in history, and through the unity of all political parties, we succeeded in sending the selected Prime Minister home through a vote, electing a coalition Prime Minister through the same process.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that when we took charge of the government, our intention was to rectify past mistakes, strengthen institutions, restore the dignity of the Parliament, strengthen democracy, and now history will decide whether we have succeeded in these endeavors or not.
He emphasized that when we came into government, we encountered an opposition that was not concerned about democracy, the Parliament, the country, or the workers. He highlighted that while in opposition, he never crossed the red lines that had never been crossed in Pakistan’s history, as even when a Prime Minister (Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto) was put behind bars and two Prime Ministers were dismissed, such politics was not pursued.
