Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a factory for making gutter covers. Murtaza Wahab said that the Water Board Corporation has set up its own plant under which sewer covers are being made at cheaper prices than the market.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Mayor Karachi said that the Water Board Corporation has set up its own plant under which sewer covers are being made at cheaper prices than the market,3500 covers have been manufactured by this plant so far which will be supplied to local body representatives.
He said that Karachi Municipality will not want the sewer covers to disappear by themselves, this has become an unfortunate tradition, mischief is happening somewhere and theft is happening somewhere.
Mayor Karachi said that the process of buying lids is long.Today if you want lids it takes time after tender, in the past there were own plants which worked much better and cheaper but water corporation decided to make lids and slabs themselves.
He further said that on August 18, fulfilling the promise, the Water Board started its plant under which 400 lids will be made and supplied to the municipal representatives per day.The lid which is available in the market for 3500 will be made by the waterboard plant for 2700 whereas the lid available in the market is 12 kg and has less iron,These water board covers are 37 kg.
