A massive fire broke out unexpectedly in a large scrapyard warehouse in Machhar Colony near Sohrab Goth, Karachi, causing widespread devastation within moments. The flames and thick smoke clouds were visible from afar, spreading panic throughout the area.
According to reports, the site housed several large warehouses storing used clothing, plastic materials, and other items. The fire rapidly engulfed at least 15 warehouses, filling the area with dense smoke and making it difficult for residents to breathe.
Eyewitnesses stated that the fire brigade faced severe water shortages while trying to extinguish the fire. Several fire tenders arrived at the scene, but ran out of water shortly after. Despite this, firefighters continued their efforts to control the blaze on their own.
Rescue 1122 and the fire brigade called in additional fire tenders, and after a continuous three-hour struggle, the fire was successfully brought under control.
According to fire department officials, cooling operations are underway and may take another one to two hours to eliminate any risk of re-ignition.
A heavy contingent of police and Rangers was deployed at the scene. Authorities stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
