Former Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that it is essential to create conditions that lead to national improvement, as the country is currently facing severe challenges of poverty, unemployment, and inflation, while business activity has nearly come to a standstill. He expressed these views while speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi.
Sheikh Rashid demanded that inmates in Adiala Jail be granted permission for meetings with families and legal representatives. He said that sentences of up to 40 years are being awarded, adding that his nephew, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, has also been sentenced to 40 years. The former interior minister maintained that in several cases in which he is appearing before the courts today, he was not even present in Pakistan at the time of the alleged incidents.
Sheikh Rashid expressed optimism that, with time, conditions in the country will improve and better days will come. Earlier, Sheikh Rashid and the founding PTI chairman’s lawyer, Faisal Malik, arrived at the court with their legal team for the hearing of the May 9 GHQ attack case. Sheikh Rashid and the other accused appeared before the court and, after marking attendance, were permitted to leave.
The court adjourned the hearing of the May 9 GHQ attack case until December 3 without any further proceedings. Court staff informed the legal team of the founding PTI chairman about the postponement.
Before this, outside the ATC, PTI founder’s lawyer Faisal Malik told the media that they would request the court to allow a meeting with the detained PTI founder, as it is necessary to receive instructions related to the case.
