Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that any decision regarding the inclusion of another country in the defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be made through mutual consultation and consensus between the two countries, and no step will be taken unilaterally.
Speaking to a private television channel, the defence minister said that Turkey or any other country could also be included in this defense cooperation, but such a decision would be taken after carefully considering regional dynamics and shared interests. He added that the Islamic world as a whole should work towards developing a comprehensive and coordinated defense framework to effectively address common challenges.
Talking about Iran, Khawaja Asif said that Iran is a neighboring country of Pakistan and that both nations share long-standing and exemplary relations based on mutual trust and respect. He said Iran’s intentions are not hostile toward any country, and Pakistan’s support is rooted in the belief that Iran should remain secure and stable.
He further said that the Iranian people are like brothers to Pakistan, and strong bilateral relations between the two countries are vital for peace and stability in the region. He emphasized that Pakistan has always pursued constructive and positive relations with its neighbors.
Regarding Israel, the defence minister said it is a country that poses security concerns for several nations, which has led to widespread apprehension at the international level.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that US President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif to join the Board of Peace related to Gaza, a move being seen as a significant diplomatic development.
