During a state dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump at the White House in honor of the British royal family, King Charles III displayed a sense of humor, creating a light and engaging atmosphere at the event.
Previously, Donald Trump had stated during the Davos summit that if the United States had not intervened in World War II, people in Europe might be speaking German and partly Japanese today, a remark that drew varied reactions.
Referring to that statement during the dinner, King Charles humorously remarked that if Britain had not played its role, people in the United States might be speaking French today, prompting laughter and applause from the audience.
On the occasion, King Charles also highlighted the historical ties between the United Kingdom and the United States by presenting Donald Trump with the original bell from a Royal Navy submarine that had played a significant role during World War II.
He jokingly added that whenever assistance is needed, the bell could simply be rung, which led to laughter throughout the hall and added to the warm tone of the gathering.
It is worth noting that King Charles was also speaking about British and French influences in North America during the colonial period, when European powers were competing for control over the region.
