Islamabad: During a hearing of the Judicial Reforms Bill case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that political matters have contaminated the environment of the court and political figures do not want just decisions.
According to details, a hearing was held in the Supreme Court on petitions against the Practice and Procedure Act. A large bench of 8 members, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the petitions.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that it cannot be denied that an independent judiciary is a fundamental part of the Constitution, and it has been violated through legislation against the basic elements of the Constitution.
The Chief Justice said that it is the Chief Justice’s authority to appoint seven senior judges and form a full court. In the case of Aftikhar Chaudhry, the court can only issue notices to the President. No reference against a judge can prevent him from performing his duties. A judge cannot be stopped from performing his duties until the Supreme Judicial Council’s decision is announced.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial further said that the court had given the same decision in the case of Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Complaints continue to be lodged against judges, and many judges of the Supreme Court, including me, have complaints against them.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that the decision of the Supreme Court judges is the decision of the court, and every institution is bound to act upon the orders of the Supreme Court. If judges and the judiciary are not respected, then there will be no demand for justice.
