Karachi: Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has announced the closure of petrol pumps from July 22nd, stating that the supply of petrol will remain suspended until security concerns are addressed.
Once again, Pakistan faces the threat of a petrol crisis. During a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association expressed that the current situation has led to an all-time high rate of inflation, and the cost of utilities has doubled due to increased labor costs.
Abdul Sami Khan stated that they are announcing a complete shutdown of operations nationwide from July 22nd, as their income has been completely wiped out in this margin, making it impossible to continue operations.
He mentioned that they have informed the Minister of Petroleum about the concerns, but no response was received. The current government has kept the profit margin at 2.40%, which is not acceptable. Additionally, the sale of Iranian and smuggled petrol has dropped by 30%.
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association disclosed that the supply of petrol will remain suspended until security concerns are addressed. They are operating with a network of more than 12,000 outlets throughout the country.
